Charles Majek’s “The Life and Death of Sixth Cell” – A Sonic Journey

Charles Majek, the artist formerly known as Sixth Cell, is gearing up for the release of “The Life and Death of Sixth Cell,” an exceptional musical journey that transcends genres. More than an EP, it’s a testament to Charles’s evolution, breaking free from former constraints and exploring uncharted musical landscapes.

Back Cover of LADOS

The project’s title, “LADOS,” symbolizes Charles’s commitment to authenticity, blending elements of hip-hop and alternative vibes. It’s not merely a name change; it’s a middle finger to the forces of conformity.

In homage to his roots and Charles’s late friend and collaborator Killer Priest, on “Bread Part 2,” Charles continues the long tradition of chronicling life through song and verse while featuring a voice note from KP. On the 5-minute long Last-Call-esque Deliverance, he goes into details of his music journey, from long term collaborators, the triumphs, the struggles and the failures. The project is closed with Osai’s Outro, a heartfelt thank you from the Nigerian Boys, and a segway into their next project – Afrotronica.

The Birth of a Performer

The world got the first taste of Majek in May with the release of his hit single Mick Jagger, which has gone on to garner over 40,000 streams on all platforms, and co-signs from Industry greats. In October, Majek headlined Nigerian Boys’ Bus Stop event together with hip hop OG Paybac Iboro along with artistes like DOTTi the Deity, Oba Lurge, Inart, Ziggy Machala, Tawati, Y1nka, and Labamz amongst others.

Collaborating with an international team, including Copenhagen-based producer Llouis Beats (DK), Lagos-based Noah Airé (NG) for additional production and mixing, including contributions from Optimist Sounds, and the talented Sir Bastien (BE) contributing with production assistance, the EP guarantees an authentic global experience.

Inspired by the Past, for the Future

Creative Director and executive producer Osai and all their Friends, together with photographer Sheyi Owolabi, collaborated with Majek to recreate iconic poses from Nigerian icons including Majek Fashek’s pose on the cover of Little Patience and Victor Uwaifo on Guitar Boy Superstar amongst others. Taking further inspiration from the past, the typography is made with custom illustrations from Guitar Boy Superstar, using the font Danfo created by Da Design Studio.
